A couple of weeks ago, we were all startled when the legendary Carine Roitfeld decided to leave Vogue Paris after 10 years of service. A lot of theories and speculations arose about her shocking resignation... Carine never released a statement about her departure, nor commented about who's to take over her place in the magazine. For those of you who have never heard of Carine Roitfeld until today... She was the Editor-In-Chied of Vogue Paris for 10 years. Alongside Emmanuelle Alt (Fashion Editor) and Marie Amelie Sauve helped change around Paris Vogue and turned it into a powerhouse magazine it is today. I am one of her fans who are saddened by her decision. I have been her fan for a couple of years already... Carine is a renowned stylist until she took over Vogue Paris in 2001. Her editorials never fail to amaze me. Always wanting over the edge and controversial editorials. During the 90th Anniversary of Vogue Paris, Carine voiced out her disappointment on censorship. "You cannot smoke, you cannot show arms, you cannot show little girls ..." (Carine broke all these rules during the December 2010 Vogue Paris issue... With editorials on little girls dressed up like socialites, wearing heels and heavy make up). She also stated that editing Vogue Paris is like "walking in high heels on the ice." I guess with these statements, it may be concluded that Carine feels her creativity is somehow constrained and restricted.
With whatever reason she has for leaving Vogue Paris, I hope that we will still be able to see more of her works, maybe unconstrained this time... Just the way she likes it.
Today, Vogue Paris reveals their new Editor-in-Chief. Emmanuelle Alt, (Fashion Editor) replaces her boss as she takes over the ever coveted position at Vogue Paris. I don't know much about Emmanuelle Alt... Since it has been Carine who has been doing most of the styling in their previous issues. But of course as the new Editor-In-Chief, there is not doubt that we'll be hearing/seeing more of her in the future issues of Vogue Paris.
